A good Day
Today was the best day of the week. The other meds seem to be out of Andreas system now and she actually was more alert and gave some real smiles. I think it really helped when her grandparents returned home this week from Arizona, she missed them very much. The Motts Children’s Hospital is huge to say the least. But well worth the visit. The pediatric neurosurgeon was wonderful and was not so blunt in his explanation of the tumor or so grim regarding her surgery and recovery. It gave us hope. Even though Andrea will now have two more tests – but it will be worth it. Her tests are not yet scheduled, but will be next week. He will then make his plan of attack, meet with his panel on Friday morning and her surgery will be scheduled the first week in April (yes, her birthday week). She will have a Stealth MRI that will be compatible to the neurosurgeons equipment and she will also have a venogram that will give the neurosurgeon a 3 D image that will assist his instruments in the surgery. He also has a safer approach in going into the skull and of possibly leaving the outside skin of the tumor, because it is attached to an artery that could cause paralysis if removed. Although that may mean she will have to followup with radiation, but we can handle that. She could be in ICU for one day and nite and home in 4 days or ICU for 3 days and nites and home in 2 weeks – it all depends on the outcome of the surgery. All in all, we feel better today. I think it was the smiles we finally got from Andrea. OH, and this doctor said back on a horse with a helmet in 3 months if all goes well – the other doctor said only after her skull fuses in 1 to 1 1/2 years. We all know how important horses are to Andrea.
